How to Safely Erase Your Hard Drive
By Imma Sila
Data in a computer may become a security threat to the company. It is
important to ensure data in the drives is safe by securely erasing the hard
drives. Perhaps you have discovered a new PC with a better and bigger hard
drive or a new PC with a better and faster SSD. No doubt, it is time to
consider getting rid of your old PC. However, before tossing away your old PC
in the trash bin, it is advisable to clean off the data and eliminate chances
of identity theft. However, you must understand deleting data off the drive
does not actually delete it entirely. This effort only goes to hide the data
from immediate view. Therefore, to guard against identity theft and completely
erase data from the storage device, it is advisable to take measures that are
more drastic by using hard drive data erasers. Following these steps can
completely wipe data from your system:1.Backup data
It can take a few minutes to a few hours to erase data on a drive. Before initiating the process of erasing your disk, it is important to backup any data you may want to keep. This is because once the data on the drive is erased completely, it will be impossible to retrieve it from the drive. Remember multiple drives sometimes exist on a hard drive.
2.Download a data destruction program
There are several ways often used to erase hard drives. However, most of the data destruction software offers an easy way of erasing data in storage devices, while allowing the device to be used again. If you like, you can download any suitable free data destruction program. Furthermore, consider burning the ISO file in a disc or undertake any other steps required to install software or get programs on bootable disc.
3.Erase according to program's instructions
Finally, consider wiping the drive based on the program's instructions. Most of the data destruction programs use multiple techniques to wipe data from the drive. Therefore, you may consider checking out the effectiveness of every method utilized to complete the wipe. Once you have cleaned up a drive, you can rest assured all the data on the hard drive is gone for good. Therefore, you can now do whatever you need to do; perhaps install a new operating system on the drive, create new partition, give or sell the storage device or computer, dispose of or recycle it.

Is a Tablet a True Mobile Device?
By Helmut Okike
There have been countless efforts to
conclude what a mobile device actually is so let's start by understanding the
definitions of the terms "mobile" and "device".
Definitions
Mobile can be defined as "the
ability to move or be moved freely and easily" and device as "a thing
made or adapted for a particular purpose, especially a piece of mechanical or
electronic equipment". With these definitions in mind, it is fair to say
that the smartphone is small enough to be a moved around freely and easily but
is this the same for the tablet? Can we class a tablet as a truly mobile
device?
A report published by Adobe titled
Adobe 2013 Mobile Consumer Survey results, found that even though mobile phones
are still the primary mobile device of choice for many, the use of tablets are
on the rise because many users are finding they have much richer experiences
when interacting and engaging with websites they like especially as tablets
offer larger screens.
Where we use tablets
Most tablets are larger than mobile
phones, and whether we are always going to carry a tablet around with the same
ease and freedom as we do our mobile phones is debatable. The report published
by Adobe also found that 80% of 3,075 mobile device users surveyed said that
they used their tablets mainly at home. 14% advised they use their tablets on
the go and 6.5% opting to use their tablets at work.
With research supporting the idea of
tablet use predominantly at home, does this conclude that the tablet is not
truly a mobile device? Of course, we may use them to keep us company or as a
means of entertainment or fact and information finding and gathering while on
holiday, or while in transit but does this make it truly mobile?
How we use tablets
Also consider the increase of
payments through mobile devices. 18% of survey respondents have paid for a
product or service with the majority rating their transaction experience easier
than providing their credit card details but this was done at home where 26% of
respondents said they spent between 1 and 4 hours a day on their tablet. 31% of
mobile money users spent more than $500 over a 12 month period with 21%
spending over $500 over 12 months using QR codes. The growth of mobile money
adoption also highlights the need for unbreakable mobile transaction security
which falls within the responsibilities of banks, payment service providers,
mobile network operators and payment processors, ensuring that we can transact
through such devices without compromising security. All being said, does it
make a tablet a truly mobile device?
Conclusion
The tablet as a mobile device
predominantly depends on the user and how they choose to use it as part of
their day to day lives. Many will find the tablet to be an extension of their
mobile device but user interface (UI) design plays a key role because the UI
design dictates how easily the device can be used to meet the need of the user
at any particular point in time.
PC Knowledge For Beginners
If you are interested in learning more about computers, then a little PC knowledge can take you a long way. Computers are constantly having issues; they get bogged down, lock up and even quit working all together. If you don't have a solid understanding of your computer then it can become frustrating as well as costly to have to let someone else deal with the problems. Most of the computer problems are basic and easily prevented and/or fixed with just a few simple instructions. You should familiarize yourself with the components of your computer, understand how they work, what they do and once you do, everything becomes so much easier to handle on your own.
Safety and Security
The most common problems with computers is malware and viruses that infect the system through the internet. With some basic PC knowledge you can prevent a great deal of these issues. It cannot be screamed loud enough that anti-virus software has to be installed on your computer and that you HAVE to update it on a regular basis. Every time you visit a website, open an e-mail or even turn your system on for that matter since most are connected wirelessly you are at risk of having your information stolen, erased or your system compromised in one way or another.
There are several great anti-virus programs out there and even though the top brands are more costly, they do have more secure features than some of the lower grade ones, so get a good one. Malware can create problems in your systems registry and this will in turn create a slower computer, a computer that locks up and even that blue screen of death that we all dread when we turn our computers on. By installing a good anti-virus program and keeping it updated you can prevent many of the common issues that computer users face.
PC Knowledge about Your Components
Maybe you don't feel like you should know about the hardware that makes your system run, maybe you want to spend the money on letting someone else install, replace or repair your computer components, if that's the case then don't worry about reading any further. If you do want to understand how your system works so that you can save time and money then take the time to learn about the components in your system. Most any computer issue can be resolved without the help of a professional; there is no reason why you could not take care of installing, replacing or repairing your system with a little PC knowledge.
So, what's inside your computer and what makes it work? Inside your case you will find a power supply, this has cords that feed power to the motherboard, hard drive and Rom drives. The motherboard is where everything comes together, the CPU, memory, video, sound, Ethernet and all your drives will connect to it for its main power source. The CPU is your central processing unit and is what determines your systems speed; the memory will also work to increase your systems speed and even the video when using software that uses video memory to operate. In many cases the video, sound and wireless internet is integrated onto the motherboard, but there are open slots on the board that will allow you to add on if you want to upgrade your system or increase its efficiency. Most of your components such as hard drives, DVD-R's CD-Rom's, memory, video cards, sound cards and even Ethernet cards are all plug and play. This basically means, very little PC knowledge is needed to install or replace these components. You simply remove the case cover and install them in the proper slots and turn your system on. You will be promoted if any software or drivers are needed to complete the installation and you simply run the CD that came with the hardware just as if you were installing a new game.
You do not need to be A+ Certified or even have a background in computers or computer hardware; with the information that is available on the internet you could be building your new mega system from scratch in just a few short hours.
